The safety and well being of our youth is of the utmost importance to our Archdiocese and the Metropolis of Pittsburgh. His Eminence Metropolitan Savas and his Metropolis Council have put into place a Youth Protection Policy for the parishes of the Metropolis of Pittsburgh. 1. Youth Protection Policy Overview
This is the most current policy on Youth Protection, last updated in September and adopted by His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh. Please read to familiarize yourself with our policy as it currently stands.
2. Youth Protection Manual
Please refer to the Youth Protection Manual, adapted from the general policy, with more specific guidelines related to contact and procedure when interacting with youth within the Metropolis of Pittsburgh.
3. Mandated Reporter FAQ
By nature of the role as a youth worker in the Metropolis of Pittsburgh,all clergy, staff (paid and unpaid), volunteers, etc. who interact with youth are considered Mandated Reporters for Suspected Child Abuse. Please refresh yourself on what responsibilities this role carries.
4. PA Paid Employees FAQ
There as specific guidelines in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania regarding requirements for paid employees (Clergy and any paid Staff). Please read up on what the law requires as compared to our Policy.
5. PA Volunteers FAQ
Volunteers are also responsible to adhere to the laws in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania related to Youth Protection. Please be aware of what this means for volunteers as well.
6. Sworn Affidavit in Place of FBI Clearance WV Volunteers
Volunteers serving as youth workers in West Virginia and have lived in West Virginia for at least 10 years may fill out this volunteer affidavit in leiu of submitting the FBI Criminal History Report with fingerprints. This affidavit must be notarized and submitted every 3 years.
7. Sworn Affidavit in Place of FBI Clearance OH Volunteers
Volunteers serving as youth workers in Ohio and have lived in Ohio for at least 10 years may fill out this volunteer affidavit in leiu of submitting the FBI Criminal History Report with fingerprints. This affidavit must be notarized and submitted every 3 years.
8. Sworn Affidavit in Place of FBI Clearance PA Volunteers
Volunteers serving as youth workers in Pennsylvania and have lived in Pennsylvania for at least10 years may fill out this volunteer affidavit in leiu of submitting the FBI Criminal History Report with fingerprints. In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, this affidavit does not need to be notarized. It must be submitted every 3 years.
9. For Office Use: Seen Original Labels
When any individual turns in any documents to the parish that are related to Youth Protection (i.e. clearances, reports, certificates, etc.), the originals must be brought to the Parish Youth Protection Representative and a copy must be paid on-site, indicating that the original was seen and does not appear to have been altered. At this time, one of these labels can be applied to the copy to be filed on the church property, and the original can be returned to the individual to whom it belongs.
